Moving: Thoughts on starting anew

There’s something quite profound about packing up your life. All the little things that you have collected over the years add up to make you. Are you the sum of your things? The clothes that adorn your body, the ornaments that bring you joy, the investments you made to make your life easier or to give you peace of mind…

I always say that I’m not really a sentimental person (and I still stand by that) but when you’ve lived in one area your whole life it’s a strange moment when you realise that you will soon call somewhere else home…

Maybe if I can move out of my comfort zone (my hometown) then I can move anywhere. That is a thought that has crossed my mind a lot recently. And to be honest that has always been my dream, to live in some far off place where they don’t speak your language and the customs differ absolutely. Maybe, this move reaffirms that I can make that a reality…

I’ve always felt that I don’t belong anywhere (I’m yet to make up my mind whether that is a rather sad or quite a beautiful sentiment) so maybe sometime soon I’ll find where the me shaped jigsaw puzzle piece will slot in…

Maybe it’s my time to bloom again…

There is a verse in this song that really sums up the strangeness of moving,

저 하나둘씩 사라져
가는 나의 흔적들이
텅 빈 집이 어색해
그 따뜻했던 우리집

One by one
Traces of me are disappearing
The empty house looks awkward
My house that was so warm

Sunday Mood: Epik High - Sleepless in __________

Epik High's latest release Sleepless in __________ is a lo-fi hip-hop lullaby, it's for the insomniacs and the dreamers. And while the new album doesn't reinvent the wheel its familiarity is comforting like a hot cup of cocoa on a rainy day or the summer sun smiling down on you. And thats enough, so many artists are switching and changing genres to innovate but sometimes staying the same is cooler.

This album is the perfect Lazy Sunday Mood, so sit back grab a book or have a little snooze in the early summer sunshine (while wearing SPF50+++ of course!) and be sonically transported to a higher realm!

Have a great Sunday!

Be a Voice for the Planet

This is important. If you can spare 5 minutes of your time to watch this video and add your pledge to Voice for the Planet, then you are on your way to saving Earth and all her wonderful inhabitants. That may seem like hyperbole…but when you think about it. And I mean really think about it, it’s not. If everyone can pledge to make a small change in their life to lessen their impact on the environment then that adds up to a whole lot of change!

What little things can you do to help?

  • Waste less Food.

  • Omit one use plastic from your life.

  • Buy Vintage.

  • Re-sell or recycle.

  • Write to a member of your Parliament, ask them for a new deal to preserve our one and only home!

  • Encourage your employer to go Eco.

  • Don’t litter.

  • Protect Bees - if you see one struggling try getting them a little drink of sugar water and perhaps help them thrive in your garden with a cute little Bee Hotel.

  • Volunteer to clean up your woodlands or beaches.

  • Spread the word - use these hashtags #Call4Nature #OurVoicesForThePlanet #FightForYourWorld.

Don’t forget its the little things that count, and that if you encourage the person next to you to make a little change then the chain goes on and on and on.

Study Hard

As you all may know I am currently studying French as part of my degree and it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever had to learn. Throughout school I just kind of coasted through all my subjects, I was lucky enough to not have to try very hard. Regrettably, this meant that I didn’t try hard and while I came out with really good grades, if I had applied myself then I could have come out with exceptional grades instead. This hindsight came a little too late but I guess I’m making up for it now. Half of my degree is in English Literature which comes very easily to me because I love reading and analysing things but learning a whole new language is infinitely complex. So now I’ve got the chance to prove to myself that I can put the effort in and study hard so that I can achieve something rather wonderful…I have the chance to learn a new language that will open up so many new doors for me, both personally and professionally.

HOW TO STUDY HARD

Find the motivation – what will make you keep going even when it feels like your getting nowhere? If you have something worth striving for then you’ll keep at it.

Get some Coffee (or Matcha if you’ve been drinking to much coffee recently) – Energy is always needed on long hard days of studying. (Especially in the winter!!)

Take a Break – For every hour of studying take 15 to 20 mins to recharge so that you can stay focused on the task and not feel like it’s all blurring into one humungous pile of confusion.

Write don’t Type – As writing on paper takes more concentration than typing your more likely to remember your taking notes on – plus it gives you the chance to use all those funky notepads you’ve bought and never used.

Repeat – Repetition is key, it’s how we form habits and remember so, keep repeating and you’ll find it easier to study hard and you’ll actually remember what you’re studying.
